Upper Gastrointestinal Disease Patients¡¯ Lifestyle and Coping Style with Stress

Abstract

|
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the relationship between lifestyle and coping style with stress of dyspeptic patients had referred to hospital. Method: Data using questionnaires were collected from 177 patients (98.3%) that agreed to the purpose of this study among the patients diagnosed with upper gastrointestinal disease. The data were analyzed by SPSS win 16.0 program. Result: Total mean and standard deviation of lifestyle was 2.71¡¾1.17, stress was 1.24¡¾.74 and coping with stress was 2.70¡¾.73. A lifestyle according to general and disease characteristic of patients was shown significantly different according to age(F=3.267, p=.023) and frequency of dyspeptic symptoms (F=4.214, p=.016). The stress according to general and disease was shown significantly different according to marriage status(F=3.224, p=.042), education background(F=4.811, p=.009) type of diagnosis(F=3.177, p=.009) and frequency of dyspeptic symptoms (F=6.790, p=.001). Coping with stress according to general and disease characteristics was not different significantly. Conclusion: Through the result of this study, a remedy of nursing cares to reduce frequency of dyspeptic symptoms by relieving dyspeptic symptoms of patients with upper gastrointestinal disease will be needed.
